There’s a lot to love about summer, but the stifling heat in late July and August can take a toll on anyone. Fortunately, there are many ways to stay cool and enjoy the dog days of summer! We asked our team members how they keep cool at our apartment communities during the hottest time of the year.

Be Outside Early and Late
Summer is a great time to be outdoors, especially since many of our communities boast scenic walking trails, dog parks, and beautiful natural surroundings. However, being outside in the middle of the afternoon can be draining. That’s why our teams recommend scheduling outdoor activities before 10 am or after 5 pm. Temperatures are typically lower in the early morning and during the evening. If you are outside during the hottest time of day, remember to stay in the shade!
Cool Down in the Pool
No matter what time of day, a dip in the pool is a great way to cool down. In fact, this was the most suggested tip from our team members. All our communities have incredible and invigorating pools! It’s tough to find anything better than a swim on a hot day.
Focus on Climate Controlled Amenities
It’s easy to feel cabin fever if the heat has kept you inside your apartment for a few days. But, no reason to fret. All of our communities offer great amenities that are climate controlled. Our clubhouses provide comfortable areas to spend time with friends, read a book or play some games. If you’re looking for a change of scenery but want to stay cool, stop by the community clubhouse!
Move Your Workout Indoors
Many of our team members like to maintain their workout regimes during the summer. Early morning runs are a favorite activity for many. They also recommend taking advantage of the on-site fitness centers in our communities. Residents have access to state-of-the-art, spacious fitness facilities that will allow you to enjoy a workout without having to deal with the sweltering heat as well.
Perhaps the most important tip to keep cool in the summer is remembering to drink lots of water. Staying hydrated is crucial to avoiding heat stress. How much water should we drink per day? According to Forbes, the U.S. National Research Council recommends 8 to 10 eight-ounce glasses a day.
