Back To School Tips

Back to school season is here, which is one of the most wonderful times of the year for parents! After a fun summer, students across the country are returning to school. We get to see the excitement on the faces of students in our apartment communities!

Getting back in a school routine can take some time, so it’s wise to plan ahead. We’re here to help with three tips that will ensure a smooth transition and set students up for a great school year ahead.

Get Organized

Back to school shopping is an annual rite of passage for all students. In addition to ensuring you have the correct school supplies, it’s important to get organized at home. Create a space where kids can do their homework. This dedicated area will help them focus and make homework a part of their routine. It’s also a good time to go through clothes and swap out bathing suits for school attire. Finally, ease students back into the school year gradually by setting a school year bedtime and morning alarm about a week in advance of the first day of classes.

Create a Schedule

The beginning of the school year can be a hectic time because school activities are once again added to everyone’s calendars. You can prep ahead by creating a calendar to keep track of due dates, important events and to-dos. This will help you stay organized because you’ll have a central place to add new events and deadlines. Have some fun with it and encourage students to help! Use stickers or color-coding for upcoming events or due dates.

Don’t Forget Breakfast

Breakfast is the ideal opportunity to help kids get a healthy dose of nutrients, such as calcium and protein. The first meal of the day really is the most important. It helps kickstart our bodies and gets our metabolism moving. Make sure to prioritize breakfast is a tip for both kids and parents. Great breakfast options include whole grain cereal, low-fat milk, Greek yogurt, and fruit. If time is tight in the morning, consider prepping for breakfast the night before. Set the table and have food ready to pull from the fridge or pantry.

We believe it’s how you live that matters and understand the importance of starting off the school year with confidence. We hope these tips help students and parents prepare for a great school year ahead!
